This workshop training will review introductory conventional medicine that will provide participants with an overview of common complaints, ailments, with diagnosis, probable treatment, and a follow-up care plan. This training will enhance the participant’s awareness of medical policies and procedures and will strengthen their medical interpreting skills. Interpreters who interpret in the medical arena need to be prepared to interpret in various medical settings, forexample, general practice family practice, and pediatric care. In addition, urgent and emergency care. Sign Language interpreters who have taken interpreting medical training will be recognized as an asset and will improve the Deaf patient’s overall experience while receiving medical attention.

Educational Objectives:

Participant will examine and analyze basic conventional medical terminology that will most commonly be spoken in Doctors, Pediatricians, Dentist offices and Urgent and Emergency Care.
Participant will be able to create and formulate a list of at least five of the basic medical terminology in a medical setting.
Participant will be able to describe and express using basic conventional medical Vocabulary, its meaning in spoken English and transform the meaning into ASL signing concepts.
