This workshop training examinations Deaf culture norms with the purpose being familiarized with natural cultural behaviors that are normal among Deaf people within the Deaf community. Deaf awareness and sensitivity will help to overcome the oppression that far too often Deaf people have suffered by people who are either unaware, or uncaring and have perpetrated behaviors that are discourteous, ill-mannered or disrespectful to Deaf people. This unwelcome treatment of Deaf people has even been taken to the level of a court lawsuit.

Educational Objectives:

• Participants will become familiarized, memorize and recall a list of Deaf culture norms.
• Participants will be able to differentiate and distinguish between violations of Deaf culture norms and other culture norms.
• Participants will become aware of Deaf culture violations and adopt and reflect on understanding how Deaf cultures were developed as part of Deaf life.
