This workshop will share an Outline for legal interpreting that touches on a variety of different aspects of interpreting “Legal Language” in the Deaf community, in the courts, jails, probation, parole, and various law enforcement sectors.

Educational Objectives:

• Participant will be able to distinguish and identify each legal setting for the purpose of recognizing the protocols and procedures of each legal situation for the purpose of effective communication.

• Participant will be able to identify and interpret at least five legal terms that are required during the arrest process and the Miranda warning.

• Participant will be able to identify the at least eight of the ten possible stages of a court arraignment with a “Not Guilty” plea and is later found “Guilty”.

• Participant will be able to identify and recollect the main differences, rules and regulations between being on probation or/and parole.
