This workshop will introduce participants to interpreting Domestic Violence for the police department, District Attorney, Hospitals, courtroom, and other legal settings. Interpreting Domestic Violence cases is no easy task, so be prepared and learn techniques to help avoid biased feelings and maintain a neutral base of interpreting. This training will teach about the different types of abuse and what the impact can be on the entire family, including the what goes through the mind of the perpetrator.

Educational Objectives:

• Participants will examine and identify the four types of domestic violence and their elements.

• Participants will analyze and be able to list the cyclic stages of domestic violence.

• Participants will learn and name the support programs for victims and perpetrators of Domestic Violence.

• Participants will learn how to interpret the terms and conditions of domestic violence probation.

• Participants will be able to interpret the differences between a restraining order, a protective order and a peaceful contact order.
