This workshop is the framework to interpreting legal documents, what their purpose is and how to interpret them. We will examine the legal vocabulary signs in ASL that are normally used during the Arrest phase, Miranda Act admonition, Probation meetings, criminal court Arraignments, and a variety of Civil and Traffic infraction matters. We will also review some basic Family Law cases for Domestic Violence, Divorce, and the Protocols for interpreting in the Superior Courts, and much more.

Educational Objectives:

Participants will be able to identify and replicate in ASL at least 3-legal terms during an arrest phase.
Attendees will be able identify and construct in ASL at least 5-legal terms during an arraignment phase.
Attendees will be able to analyze and differentiate in detail the variances between formal and informal probation, and the constitutional rights they give-up while on probation.
Attendees will analyze and describe the three main differences between and give examples of an Infraction, a Misdemeanor, and a Felony.
