This workshop will teach the participant the “specialty” medical terminology they need to strengthen their medical sign language interpreting skills. This training will afford an interpreter in a medical setting the extensive knowledge of specialized medicine and the corresponding medical terminology. In addition, they will gain the knowledge and experience of the presenter in a variety of medical settings. For, sign language interpreters to rendering the message faithfully, we must have the proper medical vocabulary training in medical terminology, protocols, and procedures.
Educational Objectives:
• Participants will be able to recall and describe what a specific Medical Specialist provides which bodily system of medical attention.
• Participants will analyze and determine the most appropriate sign(s) and or expansion techniques to effectively communicate to the Deaf consumer any specialty medical terms used during the appointment.
• Participants will observe and duplicate in ASL the process and procedure that is specific to the doctor’s diagnosis, treatment plan and future follow-up appointments.
